CHAPTER 9

Liam

If I never saw the inside of a toilet close up again for the rest of my life, it would be too soon. I’d hoped by now the morning sickness would have abated. Never mind that the name was completely false.

“Pregnancy books were written by lying liars who lie,” I grumbled after I rinsed my mouth out for the thousandth time.

Mason chuckled and rubbed my back. “I’m sorry, baby,” he murmured and kissed my temple.

“You should be,” I said, scowling, though there wasn’t really any heat to it. “It’s your fault.” I poked him in the stomach.

His amused smirk in response did not help my mood.

I scowled harder. “You’re not the least bit sorry. You’re too proud of yourself for getting me pregnant in the first place.”

His smirk spread into a full grin, but he pulled me into his arms. “I won’t lie. I’m thrilled I got you pregnant. I like saying it. I like thinking it, that you’re—you—are carrying my pups.”

It was hard to stay mad when he said it like that.

“But.” He tilted my face up so I was looking at him. “But I’d take away the misery in a heartbeat if I could.”

I blew out a breath. So much for my ire. “That helps,” I mumbled, burying my face in his chest. I rubbed my cheek over his chest hair for a moment, then pulled back. “I just wish the ‘morning sickness’ would at least stick to one time of day. Instead of morning sickness and noon sickness and evening sickness and occasionally bedtime sickness. If it’s going to be evening, fine.” I sighed. “But….”

“I know, baby. I think you should talk to Dr. Phillips about it tomorrow.”

I nodded. I wasn’t above begging for relief at this point. “I will. Hopefully there’s something that will help. I’d like to be able to keep food down.” Just as I finished talking, I yawned. “Dammit, I just got my energy back and now I’m tired again.”

Mason put a hand on my belly, already firm and slightly swollen. If I was right in my calculations, I was only a little over four weeks pregnant at this point. Granted, that equated to about eight for humans, but even so, I didn’t know why I’d be showing already. Unless Mason was right about the number… which I still wasn’t quite ready to admit.

“Give yourself a break,” he said, kissing me. “You’re knitting up three little lives. I’d imagine that takes a lot of energy.”

I sighed again but was too tired to even argue over the number. “No doubt. I just miss energy. But….” I put my hands over his. “I’ll deal with it for our pups. I should get to bed, though. My appointment is early, and I’ll have to get up and out earlier than usual.”

Mason kissed me before letting me go. “You?” he asked as we went back into the bedroom. “That’s we, baby.”

I pulled the covers back, then stood and blinked at him. “We? You’re going with me?”

“Of course I am.
